Winter Trip 1-8 April 2006, Linda and John

Winter 2006 trip report from Linda and John

We were very fortunate with the snow and I wished we were staying another week.

Just a few comments about the facilities. I agree that they are vastly improved each time we visit (this being the 3rd time to PDC. 2nd time was in the summer and first time last Easter).

If I was to rely solely on the webcam from the Arc1950 website, as some interested people might be, I would believe that nothing had happened in the village in the last couple of years. Why are there not more webcams dotted about so progress can be monitored?

We tried East and, although impressed by the food, found that 2.5 hours it took to serve the four of us 3 courses was not good enough to ensure we returned again. Although the South American restaurant was a much speedier concern one of the members of the family thought that the sauce she had with their main course tasted suspiciously like the sauce she'd had the night before in East! We thought the creperie was great. I can't say last time I was too impressed with Luigi's. My son ordered salami and that's all he got! Not a lettuce leaf or anything else in sight. Chez Anne also was disappointing. Does it really need to cost over £20 to dip stale bread into a cheese fondue? While I applaud these different restaurants springing up I am only down to a couple I would want to return to. Whilst that is no big deal for me as I mainly cook chez nous I am more worried about those people providing our income who may find that after a week they can go home recommending only one or two of the local restaurants.

Considering one of the selling points  -  apart from living all one's emotions (surely anger might be one of them?)  -  was a log fire continuously burning in the lobby I was lucky to see this happening twice. I even had to examine it to see whether it was gas burning at a low setting as it barely burnt at all.

I do think it is slightly odd that the PDC pool seems to be the only one that works on a regular basis. Sometimes it becomes hideously crowded. Also the jacuzzi works some days and not others....

I am sure there are all sorts of reasons for the above. However, this is the first time I have come on to this website so I haven't followed many tales of success and woe. Finance appears to be another issue that I can see people talk about alot. I have always been surprised by the amount the village takes out of my payment but I guess we didn't read the small print closely.

I loved the hot chocolates and the waffles. That man is an artist  -  mind you he needs help as sometimes the queue stretches out rather a way and he is still struggling with his one waffle iron.
