Summer 2005 Trip Report - Nat Randle
I also went to the resort this summer (2005). The guy who owns Luigi's says it will all be finished for ski season, its certainly going to beat Chez Anne. Despite everything looking very open it was quite inconvenient to find Casa Bella/Belles Pintes/Luigi's only open on certain nights. We were there for five days in August and Casa Bella only opened once.
>
In contrast to the mixed service you get from HMC, the guys in the Concept Board shop (Spirit 1950 as the ski school office wasn't open) were fantastic, sourcing all sorts of activities for us, from hangliding to glacier walking.
>
If anyone is thinking of going next summer you should definitely take a car. This was invaluable as we had to keep going to 1800 for most of the activities. Its really buzzing down there in the summer and was packed. It looks great for kids too.
>
A word on the mountain biking: you get a map of the mountain biking routes - do not be fooled into thinking the green routes are nice gentle tracks! As Kevin pointed out, the mountain biking is hard going with scree and loose rocks in many places. Guess it is a mountain after all but it was harder work than we expected, although a great way to see the resorts and generally there is no uphill - wahey!
>
HMC staff generally were more helpful than in the ski season, no doubt because it was quiet. It does beg that old question 'Why don't they get more staff on a ski season Saturday check-in?'
