Caitilin Tovar (Cait)

Caitilin Tovar died after a tragic accident on Sunday 15th April 2007. She was Britain's fastest female speed skier, and was competing on the KL piste in Arc2000.

For those who never met her, Cait was HMC's Owners' Representative for all the first four phases, looking after our interests and always ready to step in and sort things out. A friend and team mate of Cait's has posted an account of what happened on Sunday in this thread on Snowheads that was created by Jim Wilks. Cait's fellow KL racers have also expressed their feelings on the forum at www.kl-france.com. This Sunday Times report appeared the following week.

Friends are continuing to send messages with their memories and condolences.

Cait's memorial service

In a desperately sad afternoon yesterday (21st April), Cait's ashes were scattered at the location next to the Flying K piste where her fall ended. Representing owners were Dan Hiester, the Bings, the Keys and Nigel Campling. Once a skidoo had towed the official flowers to the memorial site, the mourners ascended. After a brief secular service her family, helped by the mourners, scattered Cait's ashes on the piste.

Having difficulty in removing the urn lid, Cait's Mother's words reflected both the Tovar family humour and courage as she said "Elle ne veut pas sortir".

As the ashes were spread, for the first time in weeks, a thunderstorm growled in the background adding poignancy to the occasion (as if needed).

During the service, a Scottish fellow speed skier poured Glenmorangie over Cait's ashes, and offered the remaining whisky to the crowd, much to Cait's Mother's delight.
