Arc 1950 Ski Rental

The Facts

1. When the Ogier shop opened it was the only option for visitors to Arc1950 to hire ski equipment. Ogier also runs Ski Cleanic in the village which now handles most of its rental business.
2. This year another shop in Arc 1950 has started hiring ski equipment.
3. Many people arrive in Arc 1950 on Saturdays - typically late in the afternoon when they can have access to the apartments at the beginning of a week's rental.
4. There is a FREE cabriolet lift linking Arc 1950 with Arc 2000 which operates until midnight for the whole week, except on Saturdays when it closes at 17:00.

You may believe that there is a connection between fact 3 and the early closing time in fact 4 above.  It has been suggested that this was part of the commercial deal supporting fact 1, but we could not possibly comment.

We have also heard that Ogier would prefer that fact 2 were untrue, and are taking legal steps to make this so. Again, we could not possibly comment.

Finally, however, to balance things a bit it should be pointed out that another reason for the early closure on Saturdays is to put pressure on the Arc2000 businesses to pay their fair share of the cabriolet running costs!

The Choices

We do not believe the interests of visitors to Arc 1950 are best served by a monopoly supplier, so here are the other choices open to you for renting skis and boots for your holiday.

Rental in Arc 1950

Visitors to Arc 1950 now also have the option of hiring their ski equipment from Concept - which started last year as a snowboard supplier and has now expanded to supply ski equipment too.  Excellent online discounts are available if you book through snowrental.

Rental in Arc 2000

There are several shops in Arc 2000 who also offer equipment at competitive prices, including Sylvain's Equilibres Shop and Intersport.fr. If you want your skis on Saturday after 5 pm though, you'll need to drive up there yourself on arrival (or take the bus) - see fact 4 above.

Rental in the UK

Another option (if you don't mind carrying the equipment with you) is to consider hiring before you go.  Edge2edge offers a very professional service.  But when comparing costs, be sure to factor in any additional charges from the airline if you are flying.
